David Williams David Williams - Managing Director

David joined the financial service industry in 1984 and worked in direct sales and as an IFA for 12 years before moving into technical training and compliance consultancy in 1996. He is the author of several technical manuals and acts as an expert witness for a national firm of lawyers.

David is an Associate of the Personal Finance Society, a Fellow of the Compliance Institute and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.


Diana Jones Diana Jones - Director

Diana worked for 22 years as a chief administrator in the private healthcare sector before taking a break in her career to have a family. She joined the Haven team in 2001.

Diana coordinates and manages the disparate range of talents within Haven Risk Management.


Vicki Copson Vicki Copson - Director / Senior Consultant

Vicki has worked in the financial services industry for 14 years with 8 years compliance and T&C experience. She has gained experience from working with product providers, friendly societies and IFA networks, and she produces skilled person reports for the FSA.

Vicki is an Associate of the Personal Finance Society and holds the AFPC, CeMAP and CeRGI qualifications.


Susan Mawhinney Susan Mawhinney - Consultant
New Caledonia Compliance Ltd

Susan runs New Caledonia Compliance Ltd which is in partnership with Haven Risk Management and provides compliance and training services to firms in central and northern Scotland.

Susan’s financial services industry experience spans 18 years commencing with branch supervision in a direct sales environment - this role encompassed responsibility for branch adherence to FSA compliance and T&C requirements. Following this she became an IFA, specialising in Group and Occupational pension schemes and supervised a team of corporate consultants prior to joining a network as a compliance and training consultant.


Anthony Smith Anthony Smith - Consultant

Anthony has worked in financial services since 1989. He has fulfilled several major compliance roles for national companies. He is a board member of the Association of Professional Compliance Consultants (APCC) and organises the annual European Financial Directives Conference.

A regular conference speaker himself, Anthony is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute an Associate of the Personal Finance Society and a Chartered Insurance Practitioner.


Catherine Lumb Catherine Lumb - Regulatory Consultant

Catherine is a Director of Compos Mentis (Training) Limited and has a career spanning more than 20 years in the financial services industry. She has seen the development and impact of regulation and undertaken a range of advisory and managerial roles. She is author of the Guide to Compliance and the Financial Services Compliance Toolkit.

Catherine lives and works in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.


Phil McGovern Phil McGovern - Pension Consultant

Phil, a Chartered Financial Planner, is a Director of MPA Financial Management Ltd. He has worked in the life and pensions industry since 1988 and been an IFA since 1993. He specialises in complex pensions issues concentrating on transfers from occupational schemes and income drawdown. Phil has run revision courses for SOFA since 1998 and G60 Pensions and K10 Retirement Options and is the author of the CII's coursebook on K10. A SOFA Board member from 2002 to 2004 achieving SOFA's Associateship level in 2001.


Michael Wainwright Michael Wainwright - Publications Consultant

Michael has spent over forty years in the financial services industry. He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personal Development and a member of the Association of Professional Compliance Consultants.

Michael produces and maintains the Haven compliance manual and writes our monthly newsletter. He is also a key member of our helpline team.


Michelle Harvey-Jones Michelle Harvey-Jones - HR Consultant

Michelle set up Harvey Jones Consulting after many years as an HR generalist in both the private and public sector. She gained extensive experience in change management during her time in Senior Management and uses her own experiences to help organisations through the process of change.


Margaret Kirby Margaret Kirby - Legal Consultant

Margaret is the Principal of Kirby’s solicitors who are specialists in Life & Disability insurance. Her experience covers the full spectrum of litigation, drafting contracts and Rules, and advising and assisting in disputes with FOS and training. She is a legal advisor to the Health Claims Forum and is a member of DISPA (Disability Insurance Service Providers’ Association).

Margaret is particularly well known within the Friendly Society movement for her work on complaints handling.
